Walk Details

This walk is a challenge in distance, terrain and time.  Using the 09:51 train from Castlerock (after sign in at the Peter Thompson Hall).  From Bellarena  the walk will begin climbing up through the Ballycarton forest, to the nature reserve on Binevenagh with the wonderful Dexter cattle, ponies and sheep. Then to the top with incomparable views over Lough Foyle and beyond.  The guide will lead you along the Gortmore cliffs, to the viewing point with the famous figure of Mananna Mac Lir, continuing on over fields to the top of the waterfalls at Downhill.  After a short walk on the Bishops road, you will cross through Downhill forest before entering the Downhill estate at Bishops Gate and head finally to the Peter Thompson Hall for a well deserved cuppa.

The walk starts from the Peter Thompson Hall, boarding the train at Castlerock for Bellerena at 09:51. (unless travelling by train from the Belfast direction)

If travelling by train from the Belfast direction on the train that reaches Castlerock at 09.51 do not get off at Castlerock but carry on to the Bellarena stop where you will be met by the guide.
