A National Trust ranger led guided walk of Grangemore Dunes at the Bann Estuary
By arrangement only, this secluded land locked sand dune system will be open to walkers. The walk will be 4 miles long, and takes in sand dunes, saltmarsh, farmland, estuary & beach.
The little known Grangemore Dunes, are located upwards of 2 miles from the present coastline, not the only hint of an unusual site. With the entire site being designated as a ‘SAM’ scheduled ancient monument, as well as a nature reserve.
Special permission to access private farmland, and tides suitable for estuary section walking.
What some of last year’s walkers said:
A beautiful day made it easy to appreciate the stunning scenery.
very enjoyable walk. Thoroughly enjoyed different terrain. Guides excellent. Reception, tea, coffee and sweet items welcome.
Very interesting and varied.
Our leaders Barry, Howard and Rhonda were very friendly, helpful and of a high standard. The catering and service at the Thompson centre were excellent, well done ladies.
Thoroughly enjoyed, did same walk last year and second time around equally excellent. Leader superb and volunteers also.
A great variety of terrain – dunes, beach and estuary. Guides were very helpful.
Alternative to road walk needed – too long, too dangerous. Otherwise great day – loved it.
Extremely well organised, very careful attention to H&S. Craic was fabulous. Will come again – well done Castlerock Walkfest.
